Abstract - (Show below) - (Hide below)

Provides recommendations for the manufacture and supply of hot mix asphalt for use in pavements including component materials, mix properties, mix design, manufacturing, storage and delivery, and sampling and testing. Recommendations for mineral fillers are included, as well as for asphalt spreading, compaction and finished surface properties. Appendices dealing with planning and mix design are also provided.

Scope - (Show below) - (Hide below)

This Standard sets out recommendations for the manufacture, supply and placing of hot mix asphalt for use in pavements, including the following:Component materials.Mix properties.Mix design.Manufacturing, storage and delivery.Sampling and testing.Preparation of surfacesSpreading.Compaction.Finished surface properties.Selection of asphalt mix type. This Standard also provides typical composition and test properties for most common uses of hot mix asphalt; however this does not preclude the use of alternative components or mix properties to meet specific performance requirements.Guidance on asphalt planning is given in AppendixA.Guidance on selection of mix types is given in AppendixB.Guidance on basis of payment for asphalt work is given in AppendixC.
