This standard specifies requirements for the construction and testing of handheld and hand-operated electrostatic paint or powder sprayguns and associated apparatus, which are used to spray paint which may give off flammable gases or vapours, or to spray powders which are liable to give rise to a dust explosion.It also applies to handheld and hand-operated electrostatic guns used for spraying flock onto surfaces coated with flammable adhesives, and to automatic guns which are part of fixed apparatus.The standard includes appendices which recommend conditions of use with flammable paints or powders, and which apply without prejudice to any statutory requirements applying to paint or powder spray areas and to the use of flammable liquids.
