Abstract - (Show below) - (Hide below)

Sets out requirements for the planned demolition of buildings and certain other structures so that the risk of injury to the public and site personnel, and the risk of damage to adjacent property and the immediate environment, is minimized. Does not apply to major civil engineering structures such as bridges or dams. Covers the methods and safety procedures which are applicable to demolition works in general, as well as deemed-to-satisfy procedures for some types of structures and members. Deals with both manual and mechanical demolition techniques including those employing specialized earthmoving-type machinery. Also includes a number of informative appendices covering the demolition of prestressed concrete structures, some contractual considerations, qualifications of site personnel and a contractor checklist.

Scope - (Show below) - (Hide below)

This Standard sets out requirements for planning and carrying out the demolition of the whole or part of a structure so that the risk of -(a) injury to the health or person of the public and site personnel; and (b) damage to the immediate environment; will be minimized. This Standard applies to the demolition of buildings and their appurtenances intended for use as places of domicile, work, recreation, or assembly and the independent structures specifically mentioned in Clause 3.7.This Standard is not intended to apply to the demolition of road and railway bridges, or of other specialized civil engineering structures such as dams or nuclear reactors.
