Specifies dimensions for the insulator coupling devices used with insulators of ceramic material or glass on a.c. overhead power and traction lines with a nominal voltage greater than 1000 volt and a frequency not greater than 100 Hz. It applies to insulator units, strings and sets, pin insulators, and to line post insulators and shackle insulators of similar design when used in sub-stations. Locking devices are also covered.

This Standard specifies dimensions for the following insulator coupling devices:(a) Ball and socket couplings of string insulator units.(b) Clevis and tongue couplings of string insulator units.(c) Locking devices for ball and socket couplings of insulator units.(d) Insulator pin-holes.In addition to the dimensions for locking devices given in Section 4, the appropriate tests for the split pins and W clips have been included.NOTES:1 AS 1154.1, AS 1154.2 and AS 1154.3 specify requirements for insulator and conductor fittings for overhead lines.2 Means of assessing compliance with the Standard are set out in Appendix A.
