This Standard specifies requirements for two-component, solvent-borne, full gloss polyurethane paints intended to be used primarily for the protection of iron and steel against exterior atmospheric corrosion. They are best applied by conventional air or airless spraying, but are also suitable for application by brush or roller. These paints are intended primarily for use as a topcoat in paint systems for the protection of iron and steel against corrosion involving wet and damp areas, high humidity, coastal/marine and industrial fallout. Polyurethane paints are in general more suitable for use in those exterior applications where it is desirable to retain colour and gloss in addition to providing corrosion resistance.Full gloss paint, specified in this Standard as Type 1 paint, is described as Paint Reference No. 26 in AS 2312 and may be used with the appropriate primer in systems MP5-D, MP5-H, MP5-K and MP6-C. High solids paint specified in this Standard as Type 2 paint, is described as Paint Reference No. 15 in AS 2312 and may be used with the appropriate primer in systems MP10-A, MP10-B, MP10-C, LP1-D, LP1-H, GZLP-E, GZLP-I and MSZLP-F.NOTES:1 Appendix A contains recommendations and advice on information which should be provided by the purchaser at the time of enquiry or order.2 Additional information on the use and application of polyurethane paints is contained in Appendix B.3 Alternative methods for determining compliance with this Standard are given in Appendix C.4 The paints are available in a range of colours.5 Type 1 paints typically have 45 percent nominal volume solids and are applied at 40-50 mm dry film thickness in a single coat. Type 2 paints typically have 70 percent nominal volume solids and are applied at 100-150 mm dry film thickness in a single coat.
