1.1This specification covers non-asbestos fiber-cement roofing shakes, shingles, and slates that are of designed varying profiles and thicknesses manufactured to provide the weather-exposed surfaces on roofs of buildings.

1.2This specification does not include details of product installation or system performance. Refer to the manufacturer's installation literature for proper installation instructions, to Specification C1459 for roofing systems performance, and to Test Method E108 for levels of fire resistance.

1.3This specification is not applicable to asbestos-cement or fiber-cement products as specified in Specifications C222 and C1225.

1.4The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.
