1.1This standard covers the testing of industrial yarns wholly made of manufactured organic-based fibers; twisted cords made of these yarns; fabrics woven from these twisted cords; and other structures made specifically for use in manufacture of pneumatic tires.

1.1.1These test methods can also be applicable when these yarn structures are used for reinforcing other rubber goods and fabrics made with these cords.

1.1.2The test methods are relevant for evaluating various yarns: nylon, polyester, and rayon yarns; tire cords twisted from these yarns, and fabrics made from these yarns.

1.2The sections on “Growth of Conditioned Yarns and Cords,” “Properties of Yarns and Cords at Elevated Temperature,” and “Properties of Wet Yarns and Cords” have been moved to Appendix X1 – Appendix X3 as non-mandatory informational items because of their very limited use by the industry and because precision and bias statements are not included.

1.3This standard includes the following sections:

1.4The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.

1.5This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

1.6This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
