Abstract - (Show below) - (Hide below)

CONTAINED IN VOL. 04.03, 2017 Defines the evaluation and calibration of friction measurement systems which are known as Continuous Friction Measuring Equipment (CFMEs).

Scope - (Show below) - (Hide below)

1.1This guide describes the evaluation and calibration of friction measurement systems which are known as Continuous Friction Measuring Equipment (CFMEs). The evaluation, and calibration processes; using the specialized equipment, instruments, pavement surfaces, trained personnel, and approved facilities; are performed using the procedures described below.

1.2This guide is offered as a process to identify and quantify the variables that affect system performance, to minimize the effect of these variables, and to provide a means to relate CFMEs to reference skid measurement systems.

1.3The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.

1.4This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Some specific hazards statements are given in Section 7 on Hazards.
