This British Standard specifies requirements for silicone rubber material with excellent ozone resistance properties intended for the production of items such as sheet, mouldings and certain extrusions for use where high tear strength is of prime importance over a temperature range of –60 °C to 150 °C1).

For applications in contact with air, the material may be suitable for use up to 250 °C. However, considerable reduction in tear strength can occur when these materials are exposed above 150 ºC for other than short periods of time.

NOTE 1 Materials and products manufactured from this material are unsuitable for use in contact with petroleum based fuels, light mineral oils and greases made from them and phosphate esters.

NOTE 2 Where prolonged contact with heavy mineral or di-ester based liquids are required, use should be made of material conforming to the requirements of BS F 153.

NOTE 3 Further information on the suitability of silicone rubber for design applications can be found in SBAC Technical Specification No. 97 [1].

NOTE 4 Marking BS F 157:2006 on or in relation to a product represents a manufacturer’s declaration of conformity, i.e. a claim by or on behalf of the manufacturer that the product meets the requirements of the standard. The accuracy of the claim is solely the claimant’s responsibility. Such a declaration is not to be confused with third party certification of conformity.
