    system
    5.1 Signal injection
    5.2 Message routing
6 Data communication
6.1 Layered structure of communication functions

Describes the architecture of a distribution automation system (DAS) by means of distribution line carrier systems - also outlines and discusses the interaction between the distribution network structure and configuration of the distribution automation system. In addition it gives an overview of the functional elements constituting the basic structure and deals with the main options relating to the coupling procedures for transmission signal injection, together with the identification of the ISO-OSI levels concerned in the functional architecture of distribution automation systems.
