Describes elements of data link control for synchronous or start stop, code transparent data transmission using the HDLC frame structure and independent frame numbering in both directions. Should not be regarded as a specification for a data communication system. Not all of the commands or responses are required for a particular system implementation. Includes normative references, definitions, data link channel states, modes, control field and parameters, commands and responses, exception condition reporting and recovery, time out function considerations, examples of the use of commands and responses and assigned XID information field format identifiers.
