    Bei technischen Anwendungen werden Gasportionen (siehe DIN 32629) teils als Volumen, teils als Masse oder Stoffmenge gemessen. Zum Umrechnen zwischen Volumen und Masse einer Gasportion ist die Kenntnis der Dichte des Gases notwendig, zum Umrechnen zwischen Masse und Stoffmenge die molare Masse des Gases. Diese Norm enthält Zahlenwerte der molaren Masse und der Normdichte für eine Auswahl von Gasen technischer Bedeutung. Weiterhin werden Zahlenwerte für eine Reihe anderer volumetrischer Grössen für Gase im Normzustand angegeben: - die relative Dichte, bezogen auf Luft; - der Realgasfaktor; - das molare Volumen.
