In rooms in which potentially explosive mixtures of gas and air can occur, high electrostatic charges on persons or objects, which could cause ignitable discharges, should be prevented by low resistance to earth. The dissipation of electrostatic charges via a floor covering tested is ineffective when there are, e.g. shoe soles, wheels of equipment and tubing of non-conducting materials between the carrier of the charge and the floor covering.
