Das Dokument gilt für optische Geräte und Geräte mit optischen Baugruppen auf dem Gebiet der Medizin. Sie stellt Anforderungen an die Beständigkeit der optischen, mechanischen, chemischen und elektrischen Eigenschaften oder Leistungsdaten der Geräte gegenüber Umwelteinflüssen und legt damit geographische und technische Einsatzbereiche fest. Sie ist die Basis für die Festlegung von Umweltanforderungen und Umweltprüfungen in Einzelvorschriften. Befasst sich nicht mit den Anforderungen an die Verpackung der Geräte während des Transports vom Hersteller zum Anwender.
