Diese Norm gilt für Innenkabel mit einem Lichtwellenleiter, die in Fernmeldeanlagen und Informationsverarbeitungsanlagen verwendet werden. Sie sind fürtrockene und feuchte Betriebsstätten, jedoch nicht für Erdverlegung zugelassen. Diese Norm gilt nicht für faseroptische Elemente der Licht- und Bildübertragung. Zweck dieser Norm ist die Festlegung einheitlicher Anforderungen an den Aufbau, die Masse, die optischen, die übertragungstechnischen, die mechanischen und die Umwelteigenschaften von Lichtwellenleiter-Innenkabeln sowie die Festlegung der entsprechenden Prüfungen.
