Defines generic requirements and objectives for a packet switching network based on typical requirements of a Local Exchange Carrier (LEC). An LEC uses packet networks to supply interLATA (Local Access and Transport Area) packet switching services and access to interLATA and international data carriers, in addition to access to other data networks. Covers the features and functions of a public Packet Switched Network at the customer interface, within a PPSN, and at the interface between a PPSN and other networks. Also addresses other necessary activities for administering the network and maintaining compatibility among new and existing equipment is addressed.
