Abstract - (Show below) - (Hide below)

Designed to support the conveyance of time critical application requests and responses amongst devices in automation environments. The "time-critical" term represents presence of a time-window, within which one or more defined actions should be completed with some specified level of certainty. Failure in completing defined actions within the time window risks failure of applications requesting the actions, with risk to plant, equipment and even human life. Defines interactions between remote applications in terms of encoding rules applied to all APDUs, formal Abstract Syntax definitions of these APDUs, protocol state machine descriptions which handle APDUs and primitives in correct sequences, and mappings of APDUs to and from Data Link services specified in ISA-S50.02-3.
