ISA-88.00.03-2003, Batch Control – Part 3: General and Site Recipe Models and Representation, is the third part of the ISA-88 series of standards focused on batch control. It specifically defines models and representations for general and site recipes used in manufacturing processes. This standard builds on ISA-88.00.01, Batch Control Part 1: Models and Terminology and ISA-88.00.02, Batch Control – Part 2: Data Structures and Guidelines for Languages, by detailing the structure, content, lifecycle and object models of equipment-independent recipes (general and site recipes), which outline manufacturing requirements without reference to specific equipment.ISA-88.00.03 explains how these recipes support enterprise-wide product definitions, facilitate process development, enable scheduling and costing integration and assist in transforming general/site recipes into detailed master recipes tailored to specific equipment. It also provides graphical and tabular notations for representing recipe procedures, offers guidance for managing recipe components like process actions and equipment requirements and discusses roles within broader enterprise systems such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) and production planning. Additionally, addresses lifecycle states, transformation methods and the benefits of using standardized recipes across multiple sites, aiming to improve consistency, communication and efficiency in batch manufacturing operations.
