Deals with classification of hazardous areas where flammable gas or vapor risks may occur, so as to allow proper selection and installation of apparatus used in these hazardous areas. Applies where there may be risk of ignition due to presence of flammable gas or vapor, mixed with air under normal conditions, but does not cover mines susceptible to firedamp, process and manufacture of explosives, areas where risk may arise due to presence of ignitable fibers and dusts, catastrophic failures beyond the concept of abnormality dealt with, rooms for medical purposes and areas where presence of flammable mist could give rise to unpredicatble risk and which need special consideration.
