This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the alternating current electromagnetic switches, hereinafter referred to as the \"switches\", of in-air type and in-oil type with rated insulation voltage of 600 V or less and frequency of 50 Hz or 60 Hz. Further, the alternating current electromagnetic switches to be used in combination with a circuit-breaker exclusively for short-circuit protection shall be in accordance with Appendix. The alternating current electromagnetic switches herein referred mean box type switches of which main circuit is used for the circuit of 50 Hz or 60 Hz in frequency, and which have contactors to make the circuit by excitation of electromagnet and to break the circuit by extinction of it, and are provided with switching part and overload relay endurable to frequent making and breaking of electric circuit and to be operated by operating switch or the like. This standard does not apply to the seitches for ship, vehicles, etc.
