La présente Norme internationale prescrit des méthodes pour la détermination de la surface spécifique des noirs de carbone à l'exclusion des surfaces contenant des micropores trop petits pour recevoir des molécules de bromure d'hexadécyltriméthylammonium (ou bromure de cétyltriméthylammonium, appelé communément CTAB). Les méthodes permettent de caractériser tous les types de noirs de carbone utilisés dans l'industrie du caoutchouc.
