Ce document a pour objet de définir un protocole d'évaluation initiale d'une méthode quantitative, employée dans un laboratoire, dans le domaine de l'analyse physico-chimique de l'eau. Le présent document fournit en particulier des outils statistiques pour évaluer les différents critères choisis pour mener l'évaluation initiale d'une méthode développée ou adaptée par un laboratoire ou d'une méthode normalisée. Le responsable de l'évaluation pourra ultérieurement utiliser tout moyen d'ordre technique ou statistique sur l'évaluation des différents critères.
