Covers static calibration of force-measuring systems. It includes grading requirements and procedures for calibration of machines using calibrating devices. Methods of force calibration using weights, calibrating levers and elastic proving devices are described. Details are specified for the assessment of readability, repeatability, and accuracy of indicated force, the assignment of a grade or grades, and the issue of a report. Notes on the calibration of multirange machines and on the response of the force-measuring system of testing machines, and values of acceleration due to gravity at selected localities in Australia are given in appendices.

This standard specifies requirements for the static calibration of the force-measuring systems of testing machines used for measuring the strength and other properties of materials, components, products and assemblies. The standard deals with the following:Terms, definitions and principle of calibration (Section 1). Grading requirements (Section 2).Procedures for the calibration of force-measuring systems (Section 3). Calibrating devices (Section 4).NOTES:1. Extensometers used in conjunction with tension and compression testing machines are dealt with in AS 1545, Methods for the Calibration and Grading of Extensometers.2. Supplementary information necessary for the calibration is given in Appendix A.
