This British Standard specifies requirements for the manufacture, testing and prime dimensions relating to screwdrivers of the following types.

  1. Screwdrivers and screwdriver blades and bits for use with slotted head screws.
  2. Screwdrivers and screwdriver blades and bits for use with cross-recessed head screws.

    NOTE 1 PZ Screwdrivers are suitable for driving Pozidriv (R) and Supadrive (R) cross-recessed head screws. PH screwdrivers are suitable for driving Phillips (R) cross-recessed head screws only.1)

  3. Screwdrivers with sleeved blades for use on low d.c. voltage apparatus up to and including 24 V d.c.
  4. Screwdrivers that incorporate a ratchet mechanism capable of reverse drive.
  5. Screwdrivers worked by a ratchet mechanism and a spindle having a double spiral track, the tool being operated by a reciprocating motion of the handle.
  6. Jeweller’s screwdrivers comprising a pencil-shaped body and rotating head, with either fixed or replaceable blades, for use on miniature screws.
