Rechteckringe nach dieser Norm gelten für die Anwendung im allgemeinen Maschinenbau. Rechteckringe mit den Ringhöhen I und II sollen bevorzugt verwendet werden; Rechteckringe mit grösseren Ringhöhen nach Anhang A sind insbesondere als Ersatz für Kolbenringe in Maschinen älterer Bauart vorzusehen. Für Hubkolbenmaschinen mit Zylinderdurchmesser von 30 bis 200 mm sind Rechteckringe für den Kraftfahrzeugbau (siehe DIN ISO 6622 Teil 1) zu verwenden.
