This part of the technical report specifies safety recommendations applicable to the prevention and fighting of fires in funicular railways not in tunnels, aerial ropeways and ski-tows that may endanger the health and safety of persons. With regard to funicular railways, these recommendations are applicable to those not running in a tunnel and having a pathway alongside the track that does not allow passengers to exit the carrier in less than 5 min. For funicular railways where evacuation of the carrier can be completed within 5 min, the same recommendations may be applied in part according to the results of the safety analysis of the installation. With regard to these problems of fire, it is essential to take organizational measures relating to operation, but these are not covered in this report. Requirements for aerial ropeways operating in a tunnel may also be based on CEN/TR 14819-1.
