Covers the dependence of attenuation in single-mode fibre optic devices to changes in polarization. Applicable to any single-mode interconnecting device and passive component, including connectors, switches, splicers, isolators, branching devices and attenuators. Used to measure the total range of attenuation, due to changes in polarization of the launch state. Also used to measure the total range of coupling ratio, but cannot be used to measure the polarization dependence of return loss.
