Abstract - (Show below) - (Hide below)

Specifies requirements for conductors in insulated electric cables and flexible cords used for general wiring cables for land installations and, in the case of copper conductors only, for ships' wiring. The Standard does not apply to material used for the manufacture of conductors.

Scope - (Show below) - (Hide below)

This Standard specifies requirements for conductors in insulated electric cables and flexible cords used for general wiring cables for land installations and, in the case of copper conductors only, for ships' wiring. This Standard applies particularly to conductors for those types of cable and flexible cord to which the relevant Australian Standard or Approval and Test Specification makes cross-reference. This Standard is not necessarily limited to conductors of such cables and cords and should be applied, wherever practicable, to cables designed for general and special purposes. The conductors specified here do not apply to the following:(a) Magnet winding wire including litz wire (see AS 1194.1).(b) Mineral-insulated metal-sheathed (MIMS) cables (see AS 3187).(c) Cables intended for use at audio or higher frequencies, e.g. telecommunication cables.(d) Cables for use in automotive vehicles (see AS 2218).(e) Welding cables (see AS 1995).
