This standard specifies requirements relating to the design, construction and testing of electrical equipment which can be shown by test or otherwise to be suitable for use where explosive gas atmospheres present an explosion hazard.In general, this type of protection is applicable to electrical equipment supplied from a voltage not exceeding 1100 V (nominal), but equipment supplied from higher voltages is not excluded.Tests which are considered essential are nominated herein, but additional tests may be required by the certifying authority.
