    Dieser Teil der IEC 60880 gilt für Software rechnerbasierter Sicherheitssysteme in Kernkraftwerken. Er beinhaltet Anforderungen an Software für leittechnische Funktionen der Kategorie A und die diese realisierenden Systeme und Einrichtungen (FSE). Er behandelt - Vorkehrungen gegen durch Software verursachtes Versagen aufgrund gemeinsamer Ursache (CCF); - automatisierte Werkzeuge zur Erstellung von Software für sicherheitstechnisch wichtige Systeme; - Verwendung vorgefertigter Software. Die angemessene Aufbereitung und Überprüfung von Daten wird innerhalb dieser Themen behandelt.
